My Approach

Some information about my approach to therapy…

Whilst I have completed training in a number of different psychological therapies, my central focus is on building our therapeutic relationship. This is the foundation on which we can work together in a safe and collaborative way. With this as my focus, I will draw on the therapy model that makes most sense to you and your situation. I often integrate models together to create a tailor-made approach.

Some of the therapy models I have trained in include:

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Schema Therapy

Compassion Focussed Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

Mentalisation Based Therapy

Psychodynamic

Systemic

(More information about each of these models of therapy can be found under the therapies page)

It is important to me that I provide the highest levels of care I can possibly give to my clients. I therefore only offer evidence based therapies and keep my training up to date to ensure I provide the best quality care.

What happens first?

The first step is to have an initial assessment. During the initial assessment I will ask you some questions to help me understand what is bothering you and determine if I can help. Usually these meetings are for up to 1.5 hours. I will ask you to tell me about what has brought you to therapy, so that I can begin to develop an understanding of what is causing you difficulties. The initial assessment is also a good opportunity for you to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me. If I am unable to help or if you feel you would prefer to try another psychologist I will do my best to help you find someone.

I am able to offer appointments to anyone aged 18 or over and can work with you on a short or longer term basis, depending on what your needs are.

Next step

If we decide that working together is right for you, I am able to offer weekly sessions. Sessions normally last for an hour. We can agree a plan for how long we will need to work together to meet your goals. You are free to stop therapy at any time.
